Chaos and Confusion
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage on June 26, 2015, thereby overturning the decision made by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals with regard to Ohio's ban of same-sex marriage. This ruling that makes
same-sex marriage a constitutional right has huge moral implications that have the potential to lead us down a path to social chaos and confusion. It will bring death and destruction just like the Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade (January 22, 1973).
That case provided for the legalized killing of close to 58 million unborn babies by the end of January 2015 as reported by the National Right to Life Committee. The unborn’s right to life is not man's to give and take away.
In spite of what secular evolution preaches, all life comes from God, therefore, He alone has the right to decide who lives and who dies. Occupying the same status as the divine dignity of life is the institution of marriage. Just like life, this God-ordained covenant between a man, a woman, and their God, has its origins with the Creator and, therefore cannot be changed by man in form or definition. This iconic institution of marriage is foundational for continuation of the human race. This recent Supreme Court decision impudently defies God's design and will ultimately bring social degradation that will be irreversible.
Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion. In it, he ignored the true origins of marriage. In materialistic arrogance, he pronounced that this divine union would be subject to evolution which would change its basic definition through time. Kennedy wrote:
"The ancient origins of marriage confirm its centrality, but it has not stood in isolation from
developments in law and society. The history of marriage is one of both continuity and change. That institution—even as confined to opposite-sex relations—has evolved over time."
The “evolution” addressed by Kennedy is the introduction of the gay and lesbian's right to marriage, something that was never supported by the design of the Creator. It is an illogical proposition to think such unions can procreate naturally. It defies biology. To invoke evolution is the normal inclination of the secularists. They do this so they can cover up their irrationality. Evolution is their miracle worker. It is allegedly supported by science but, in reality, it falls short. It cannot be tested, observed in the present, repeated, or falsified, and the list goes on.
Evolution is an unsubstantiated proposal that has been falsely called science. Due to indoctrination, secular educational institutions and liberal media have preached the evolutionary mantra, "change through time." The change is supposed to be upward, but what we observe is either lateral or downward progression. Lateral change is observed in the variations we see as in the different breeds of dogs and cats. The downward change always leads to death and destruction as evidenced by genetically linked disease and the extinctions of species. It follows that evolution is a naturalistic ideology that is based on materialism. This unobserved and illogical philosophy purposely censors out a divine Creator. Unfortunately, many have been influenced by this godless ideology including Justice Kennedy. That is why he incorrectly boasts that same-sex marriage will make the institution stronger, saying:
"These new insights have strengthened, not weakened, the institution of marriage. Indeed, changed understandings of marriage are characteristic of a Nation where new dimensions of freedom become apparent to new generations, often through perspectives that begin in pleas or protests and then are considered in the political sphere and the judicial process."
Marriage is constant because it is perfectly designed by the all-intelligent Designer. It is clear that marriage is intended to produce the next generation with male and female becoming one. In human sexuality, sex determination takes place at the 23rd chromosome in which a male is identified with chromosomes XY and a female by XX. This cannot be changed as it is the true marker of our biological sexual identity. Those who attempt to change their gender through hormone therapy and surgeries cannot alter their original, genetically-predetermined chromosomal gender. Their original genotype and phenotype remains the same. The interaction of these two different types of 23rd chromosomes produces new individuals with genetic characteristics of both parents. For Justice Kennedy to suggest that this design can be strengthened is bizarre and foolish. Same-sex marriage violates the central doctrine of biological procreation and can only lead to unnatural methods of reproduction which have the potential for more moral confusion and ethical chaos.
Attack on a Sacred Institution
The biblical definition of marriage has been the centerpiece of American culture and the view held by our founding fathers. Because the teaching appears in both the Old and New Testaments, it has become a well-accepted institution until the last decade. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ clearly defines marriage as a union between a male and a female eliminating any question about a same-sex marriage. When confronted by the Pharisees about divorce, Christ answers them by saying:
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4-6 (NKJV)
Jesus Christ connects the Old Testament verse Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2:24 defining marriage while clearly emphasizing that the Genesis account is a literal narrative. Man's true uniqueness as a special creation of God is revealed because man is created in God's image. In this verse, where the word "create" is used, we also understand that our sexual identity is exclusively male and female.
This verse is vital for the existence of mankind, because man, as male and female, is exalted to a special place in His creation. Psalm 8:5 states, "And you have crowned him with glory and honor." Our founding fathers understood this very basic biblical principle. That is why they included in the Declaration of Independence that every man created by God is equal and that only God could give the gift of "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." In spite of what the ACLU claims on their website, Thomas Jefferson asked, "Can the liberties of nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that liberties are gift of God?"
The Supreme Court cannot stand in the place of God to bestow dignity upon man and woman, or in this case, give dignity to same-sex marriage. The dignity that all men deserve is God-given, including the blessing of the marriage covenant. In the majority opinion, Justice Kennedy’s ruling was in serious error when it made the plea, "They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law."
The law does not author or bestow man’s dignity or human worth. Only God can grant these to man. Justice Thomas establishes this point in his dissenting opinion by stating:
“Human dignity has long been understood in this country to be innate. When the Framers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal,” the unalienable rights, they referred to a vision of mankind in which all humans are created in the image of God and therefore of inherent worth. That vision is the foundation upon which this Nation was built.
The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.”
As God imparted His likeness to man, He also gave a command, "Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth." (Genesis 1:28). A divine plan was put into effect. Male and female would leave their parents’ family structure to become one, making a special union in both the physical and spiritual realms. This plan was God-ordained for the continuation of mankind. It is a sacred union that no man has the right to separate. It is God alone who ordains marriage, noting in His Word, "Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." (Matthew 19:6). This holy and binding union is also mentioned in Ephesians 5:22-32 where the identifying roles of husbands and wives are exemplified through Christ's love for His church. Jesus Christ is the bridegroom of the church; the body of believers is His betrothed. He gave His life for the church, so with that same measure of godly love, husbands should love their wives. The Apostle Paul refers to Genesis 2:24 when he explains that husbands should love their wives as they love their own flesh, pointing again to the Lord's self-sacrificing devotion for the church. In Ephesians 5:32, this special union reflects the mystery of the Gospel. The Supreme Court ruling cannot redefine this divine union that represents the plan of salvation. This cultural shift is movement to get rid of God's law and an attack on the institution that anchors our social structure. When man plays God, there will inevitably be chaos and confusion leading to destruction.
Our founding fathers understood the importance of the true and proper definition of marriage as stated in Noah Webster's writings. He is noted as the Father of American Education. He fought as a revolutionary soldier, served as a judge and legislator, and was one of framers of the Constitution.
Webster, a devout Christian, is quoted in his 1832 textbook, History of the United States stating, "Our liberty, growth, and prosperity was the result of a Biblical philosophy of life. Our continued freedom and success is dependent on our educating the youth of America in the principles of Christianity." He understood the importance of language in developing a culture unique to America that he published the first American Dictionary of English language in 1828. In his dictionary, he defined marriage as follows:
The act uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life. Marriage is a contract both civil and religious, by which the parties engage to live together in mutual affection and fidelity, till death shall separate them. Marriage was instituted by God himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of sexes, for promoting domestic felicity, and for securing the maintenance and education of children.
Webster’s definition is a great example of following the Biblical vision of marriage. It has been gradually eroded away as evidenced in this Supreme Court ruling. All around us, we see an ever-increasing promotion of promiscuity in dress and behavior, cohabitation, high divorce rates, etc. Add to this the broad acceptance of homosexuality and these factors deter the acceptance of the proper definition of marriage. Because the sanctity of marriage is directly tied to the biblical model of sexuality, we degrade God’s original intentions when we change this, thereby degrading our true identity in Christ. This will always lead to sinful behavior. The true biblical model has been around since the beginning of time.
It has always reflected the righteousness of God in Christ, but those in darkness refuse to accept it. The Messiah told us, "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." (John 3:20).
This Supreme Ruling will embolden the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. This act of judicial activism by the high court is at odds with our constitutionally-protected right to freedom of religion. This will no doubt be challenged by a series of new Supreme Court rulings. Given the way this court has been politicized by progressive judicial activists, we will probably see a continued loss of our freedoms to accommodate this newly-created, and now constitutionally-protected, minority. The result of this will be only more chaos and confusion.
The LGBT movement represents a small part of our population. In America, 1 out of 100 women and 2 out of 100 men are classified as homosexual with an additional 4% claiming to be bisexual. According to American Psychological Association, the number of transgenders in America is difficult to accurately estimate, because the range of gender identity and expression is very broad. As the polls indicate, this small representation over the last fifty years has pushed steadfastly forward with an organized effort to capture the sympathetic attention of the majority of Americans. Many of the States have caved in to this movement by voting to accept same-sex marriage, thereby ignoring its true divine origins.
The LGBT movement is also causing a cultural shift in our public schools. They have gradually infiltrated in the K-12 curriculum. Students have now grown up with Gay-Straight Alliances in their high schools perpetuating that LGBT behavior is acceptable. It has caused great confusion about gender. Many public schools, colleges, and universities are giving students the freedom to claim their sexual identity providing for gender-neutral housing and bathrooms. As the chaos and confusion continues, a lesbian couple in California has begun hormone therapy on their 11-year-old son who claims to be a female. Under any sane definition of child abuse, this would be considered criminal. There are a growing number of students embracing the idea that when it comes to classifying gender there are more than two options. To add to gender expression, last year, Facebook added a tab with some 50 options alongside male and female.
Same-sex marriage exemplifies how a nation that had its foundation on God and His law is aggressively being challenged and changed, but not for the better. This is not just a battle; it is a major war being waged against those who love Christ. Our freedom of religion is in danger. Encroachment of government on our freedom to exercise our faith needs to be confronted.
We are offering a special resource that demonstrates how our Christian faith is under attack called, "One Generation Away."
